On March 10, 2018, according to the agenda of the plenary session, the deputies considered the draft law "On Amendments to the Law of the Donetsk People's Republic "On Mass Media" and the Law of the Donetsk People's Republic "On Telecommunications", developed by the profile Committee together with the Ministry of Information.
Yelena Mel’nik, Chairman of the Committee of the People's Council on Foreign Policy, International Relations, Information Policy and Information Technologies, told about the essence of the amendments.
"Taking into account the experience gained in the field of mass media, it became necessary to introduce changes as regards bringing certain terminology in line with the current legislation. Apart from this, more detailed legal regulation is required by the provisions of the Law regulating state control in the field of mass media.
Moreover, the amendments will bring certain norms of the Law of the Donetsk People's Republic "On Telecommunications" in line with the legislation on the mass media," parliamentarian said.
According to Yelena Mel'nik, the draft law is aimed at improving the laws of the Donetsk People's Republic "On Mass Media" and "On Telecommunications" with regard to the specification of measures to monitor compliance with the legislation on the mass media.
Given the particular urgency of monitoring compliance with the legislation on the mass media, the deputies adopted it in two readings in general. Further, the Law will be sent for signature to the Head of the Republic and will come into force after its publication on the official website of the People's Council of the DPR.
