Military Tribunal of the Supreme Court of the DPR: sentence for espionage

On December 22, 2017 the Military Tribunal as the Chamber of the Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic considered in a closed court session a criminal case on charges against a Ukrainian citizen N., born in 1979, in committing a crime under Art. 321 of the Criminal Code of the Donetsk People's Republic. The court found that the accused, acting in war-time, committed an attempt on an especially serious crime – espionage in order to undermine the security of the Donetsk People's Republic.

Being an enemy of the Donetsk People's Republic, acting deliberately in order to collect and transfer to the representatives of the Security Service of Ukraine information about the locations of the firing positions, movement, the number of military equipment and personnel of the Armed Forces of the Ministry of Defense of the Donetsk People's Republic, as well as other information with the purpose of using it against the security of the Donetsk People's Republic, the accused N. registered in the social network "Twitter", where during the period from October 2014 to August 2016 he has been posting information about the movement of military equipment, maps showing the location of the DPR firing positions, as well as other information of a military nature and activity of the DPR, believing that the information makes it through to the representatives of the Ukrainian intelligence agencies and will be used against the security of the DPR.

The Military Tribunal found the accused guilty of committing an offense under Part 3 of Art. 29, Art. 321 of the Criminal Code of the Donetsk People's Republic and sentenced him to fourteen years and six months imprisonment in a strict-regime correctional colony.
