Eduard Yakubovskiy commented upon the results of the meeting with the representatives of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission

During the regular meeting of Eduard Yakubovskiy, the Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic, with Fiona Frazer, the UN Mission representative, the issues of interaction and cooperation between the representatives of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission on in Ukraine and the court system of the Donetsk People's Republic in the sphere of protection of the rights and freedoms of the citizens of the Republic were discussed. The Chairman of the Supreme Court of the DPR gave his commentary upon this meeting in an exclusive interview to the correspondent of the official website of the Donetsk People's Republic.

“Our meetings were held in a constructive atmosphere, for we understand the difficulties which the Mission has to face. After all, we all can witness the impact that Western countries have on various kinds of international organizations. For example, the US threatens to cut UN funding. Apparently because the United Nations Organization not always supports the views expressed by the administration of the US President.

It should be noted that the Mission staff are trying to work quite objectively and impartially, although it is rather difficult for them. This time, during the meeting we discussed the issues of committing crimes of a sexual nature in the combat zone. I must report that as far as we – the militia, the Armed Forces of the DPR – are concerned there are almost no such cases. And there are no reports about committing such crimes. However, there are various attempts of speculation on this issue, especially from the part of Ukraine. But we do not have this. Education in Donbass is different, it does not allow men to treat women and anyone else in this way.

Then we discussed issues related to the consideration of the case of the so-called "professor Kozlovskiy." He fully pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him, in the presence of the same staff of the UN mission. Kozlovskiy directly and clearly stated this, without any coercion, and was sentenced to imprisonment. The staff of the UN mission asked to study this criminal case in more detail, in what they were assisted in accordance with the procedure established by the law. After further study, a decision will be made. No one applied to the court in cassation or supervisory procedure,” commented Eduard Yakubovskiy.
